News Topical, Digital Desk : Mohammad Tahir Anwar, the elder brother of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief and India's most wanted terrorist, Maulana Masood Azhar, has died in Pakistan. His death is reportedly mysterious.
The banned militant group's official channel reported that Anwar's funeral was held on Monday at Jamia Masjid Usman Wali in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. However, the exact cause of his death has not yet been revealed.
Had a special role in Jaish-e-Mohammed
According to reports, Anwar was one of Masood Azhar's five brothers. He played a key role in Jaish-e-Mohammed and was actively involved in the terrorist organization's operations.
Earlier, Masood Azhar had claimed last year that 10 members of his family and four of his associates were killed in India's targeted air strikes under 'Operation Sindoor' to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.
Azhar was released after the plane hijacking.
A statement issued in Azhar's name said those killed in the attack on the JeM headquarters (Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur) included his elder sister, her husband, a nephew and his wife, a niece, and five children from his extended family. Masood Azhar was arrested in India in 1994 and released after the hijacking of Air India IC 814.
Masood Azhar, listed as an international terrorist by the United Nations Security Council, has been involved in the plotting of several terror attacks in India, including the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the 2016 Pathankot attack, and the 2019 Pulwama attack.
