News Topical, Digital Desk : Mappls, a homegrown app that rivals Google Maps, has been launched. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav shared a video of the navigation app on social media on Saturday. This indigenous navigation app boasts even more features than Google Maps. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav himself has become a fan of the app. He announced that an MoU between the Railways and Mappls will be signed soon.

The Mappls app, developed by MapmyIndia, offers all the features found on Google Maps. Furthermore, this indigenous navigation app allows users to update information about road conditions, petrol pumps, dhabas, and junction points along their routes.

Railways will soon use

Union Minister for Railways and Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Saturday experienced the fully made-in-India smart navigation app "Maples," developed by MapmyIndia. He tested the app's features firsthand and highlighted how indigenous technology is now matching global standards. He said that a Memorandum of Understanding will soon be signed between Indian Railways and Maples, enabling the use of the app's technology in railway systems.

Union Minister shared his experience

The Union Minister shared a video of this app from his X handle and asked people to try it once. He shared information about its features through the video. In the video, it can be seen that wherever there is an underpass or overbridge in the map, a 3D junction view is created there, to make navigation easier for the user. In Google Maps, users usually face difficulty in choosing the right lane in overbridges and underpasses. But this problem will not arise in the Mappls app.

Furthermore, if you need to visit a multi-story building or shopping complex, you can find information about which shop is located on which floor. The Union Minister urged people to give this indigenous map a try.

Dependence on foreign technologies will be reduced

It's worth noting that this shift comes at a time when India is strengthening its indigenous technology ecosystem and encouraging domestic innovation in key areas such as digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI), and manufacturing. The government's goal is not only to promote local apps but also to ensure data security and reduce dependence on foreign technologies.
