News Topical, Digital Desk : The highly anticipated film Ramayan has received mixed reviews since the teaser was released. The film's VFX is also being criticized on social media. Now, Hrithik Roshan has posted a lengthy post addressing the criticism of Ramayan's VFX. Hrithik has spoken out in support of Ranbir Kapoor's film.
Actor spoke on poor VFX
Hrithik Roshan has given a befitting reply to those criticizing Ramayan , saying that everyone has a different style of VFX. Hrithik wrote, "Yes, there are bad VFX. Sometimes they are so bad that they are difficult to even watch. Especially for me, and even more so when it is a film I have been a part of."
Hrithik Roshan is obsessed with VFX
Hrithik said, "When I was 11 years old, I saw the movie 'Back to the Future' during a trip to London and that movie changed my life forever. I became obsessed with it. I would sit with my dad's VHS player, pause-playing each frame until the player broke down."
I waited for months
Hrithik Roshan said, "I ordered a book called 'Industrial Light and Magic - The Art of Special Effects' from Reader's Digest with my pocket money and waited for months for it to arrive at the Juhu Post Office. It was the happiest day of my life. I still remember the smell of the book when I opened it. Many more books followed."
Hrithik spoke in support of Ramayana.
Hrithik Roshan spoke about the films that inspired him. The actor said, "Some special people among us today—the makers of films like 'Kalki,' 'Baahubali,' and 'Ramayana' (and yes, my dad too, who made 'Koi Mil Gaya' and 'Krrish')—are my heroes. They have the courage and vision to do something never before, and it's all because of their love for cinema, so that we, the audience, can experience something we've never seen before. In my opinion, they risked all their money and years of hard work so that another 11-year-old could feel the same way I did."
The way of showing VFX in Ramayana is different.
Hrithik Roshan said that making a VFX-heavy film takes years of hard work. He also said, "From what I've learned, makers use different VFX styles to bring their vision to life on screen. It's like comics or animation - some people like the ANIME style, but it's not as realistic as 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse'. You may prefer one style over the other, but neither style is wrong."
Hrithik Roshan compares it to Hollywood
Hrithik Roshan further said, "Similarly, films with VFX can have 'photorealistic' (invisible) VFX, where you don't see the VFX at all, like in big-scale action films like James Bond, Die Hard, War 1, or the makers can adopt stylized VFX for storytelling, which is more magical. Sometimes the colors are brighter, the lighting is non-realistic and the visuals are deliberately made to look like beautiful paintings, like in films like '300', 'Lord of the Rings'."
What did Hrithik say in support of the makers?
Hrithik Roshan wrote, " Bad VFX is when a film promises 'photorealism' but fails to fully deliver. Even a small flaw in physics or gravity can ruin the entire illusion. Or they promise a storybook style, but fail to make it beautiful, artistic, or divine enough to captivate the audience. But saying that 'storybook style' doesn't look photorealistic is incorrect. Because it's not designed that way. "
Finally, Hrithik said, "And you can't criticize a maker just because he chose a particular style while you liked another style. That's not right. So sometimes when you say the VFX is bad, it could just be a style you didn't expect. So next time, don't just ask if it looks real. But first ask if it's right for the story. Is it making me feel what the maker wanted me to feel?"
