
News Topical, Digital Desk : Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to hospital after complaining of fatigue, his office said on Sunday.
According to media reports, he had left early after attending a picnic on the occasion of his 100th birthday. Mahathir, who has been active in politics for more than two decades, is suffering from heart problems and has also undergone bypass surgery.
Mahathir has been battling heart disease
In recent years, he has been hospitalised repeatedly for health problems. According to information provided by his office, he has been kept under observation at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur due to fatigue problems.
The office issued a statement saying, "He is currently resting and we hope he will return home by evening." According to local media reports, Mahathir, who was a member of parliament until 2022, drove himself to the picnic event.
Cycling for one hour
The day before this was also his wife Hasma Mohammed Ali's 99th birthday. According to reports, he also cycled for an hour before feeling tired. His birthday was on Thursday.
Mahathir was Malaysia's prime minister for 22 years until 2003. He returned as prime minister once again in 2018 after leading an opposition coalition to a historic victory, but his government collapsed in less than two years due to internal strife.
