The thieves made off with cash, 35 tolas of silver jewelry, and important documents. Following the incident, passengers are deeply concerned about security. This incident has raised serious questions about railway security.
GRP station officer gave this information
According to GRP Station House Officer Manoj Kumar, the first complaint was filed by Nikhil Kumar Singh, a resident of Danvav, Abu Road. Nikhil had gone from Abu Road to Haridwar on Friday (December 5th) to finalize a land deal. There, the deal for his 1.5 bigha land was finalized for 21 lakh rupees.
After the sale agreement was finalized on Sunday (December 7), he was paid the full amount in cash. On Monday (December 8) evening, he was returning from Meerut to Abu Road on the Yoga Express's A2 second AC coach. Nikhil said the journey was proceeding normally, but around 6 a.m. on Tuesday (December 9), as the train was approaching Ajmer, several passengers in the coach complained of their bags being stolen.
Meanwhile, Nikhil checked his bag and found it missing. The bag contained ₹2.1 million in cash, a land sale agreement, an identity card, and other important documents. Upon discovering the theft, he called the railway helpline number 139 to complain.
On the other hand, 35 tola silver is missing.
The second complaint was filed by Sita Garg, a resident of RICO Colony, Abu Road. She was traveling in coach A1 of the same train. Her bag, containing approximately 35 tolas of silver jewelry and approximately 80,000 rupees in cash, was also stolen late at night. Both passengers reached Abu Road and filed a written complaint at the GRP police station.
GRP registered an FIR
Station House Officer Manoj Kumar said that after registering zero FIR in both the cases, as per the procedure, one case has been transferred to GRP Jaipur and the other to GRP Ajmer.
He said the matter is extremely serious and a theft gang is suspected. Footage from CCTV cameras installed in the train coaches is being examined and suspect passengers are being identified.
Passengers raised questions on railway safety after the incident.
Raising questions about railway security, many passengers said that such a large-scale theft in an AC coach at night demonstrates serious negligence. Passengers are also angry that security is not robust even in premium coaches.
The station officer stated that the investigation has been intensified and they hope to catch the accused gang soon. He urged passengers to avoid leaving valuables away from their seats during night travel, to keep their bags locked and securely fastened, and to immediately report any suspicious activity.
Demand to increase security of AC coaches from Railway Administration
After the incident, questions are also being raised that despite security patrolling and surveillance in the train, how did the thieves enter the AC coach and steal lakhs of rupees and jewellery and escape.
Passengers have demanded that the railway administration increase security in AC coaches at night, increase patrols, and strengthen CCTV surveillance. This incident has once again raised serious questions about the reality of rail passenger safety.
