News Topical, Digital Desk : The impact of the nationwide petrol and diesel shortage is now being felt even by government institutions. The Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, has issued a letter to all departments, urging them to cooperate with the Transport Department and to use government vehicles only in emergencies and extreme need. They have also requested written permission beforehand.
On Friday (March 27), the institute's officer-in-charge of vehicles issued a letter to the director, all department heads, and faculty, notifying them of the disruption to fuel supplies.
Key points of the letter
- Vehicles should be requisitioned only for works of unavoidable and emergency nature, which are absolutely necessary as per the requirement of the institute.
- Each request must be accompanied by a clear justification, urgency, and necessary details. It must be forwarded by the department head or nodal officer.
- Avoid asking for a vehicle for routine, ordinary or non-emergency purposes as much as possible.
- Considering the current availability of fuel, vehicles will be allocated only for priority and essential tasks.
- If any duty is not completed or work is delayed/inconvenient due to these circumstances, the Vehicle Cell will not be responsible for the same.
State's premier medical institution
It's worth noting that SGPGI is Uttar Pradesh's premier medical institution, treating hundreds of patients daily and providing 24x7 emergency services. Consequently, vehicle management (ambulances and other vehicles) is directly linked to patient care. Although the government has stated that supplies will be normal during this crisis, departments have now taken initiatives to conserve fuel, raising many questions.
