A Lokayukta inspector was burned alive late Friday night on the outskirts of Annigeri town in the district. This tragic incident occurred in a road accident. The inspector's car collided with a road divider and caught fire, burning him alive inside the car.
The car lost control and hit the divider
The deceased was identified as Inspector Salimath, posted at the Haveri Lokayukta office. According to initial police reports, the officer was traveling from Gadag to Hubli when his Hyundai i20 car lost control and hit a divider on the national highway. Following the collision, the car caught fire, trapping him inside. He was unable to exit the car and the vehicle burned. The fire quickly spread throughout the car, burning him to death.

Locals rushed to the scene as soon as they learned of the incident. People outside watched the car burn and attempted to extinguish the flames. Local authorities were then informed. By the time firefighters and rescue teams arrived, the car was completely engulfed. Footage from the scene shows the car reduced to ashes. The inspector's body was found burned inside the vehicle.

The Annigeri police station has registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports indicate that the inspector was on his way to visit his family in Gadag when the accident occurred and he was burned to death.
