A student in Karnataka was asked to remove his janeu (sacred thread) before entering an exam centre. The student, Suchivrat Kulkarni, had alleged that he was asked to remove the janeu when he went to appear for the Common Eligibility Test (CET) exam at Sai Sphurti PU College in Bidar on April 17.

major action taken

The student said that the staff present at the examination centre said that if he does not remove the sacred thread, he will not be allowed to take the exam. The student refused to remove the sacred thread, calling it a religious symbol, after which he was stopped from taking the exam. Major action has been taken in this case.

Sai Spruti PU College Principal Dr Chandra Shekhar Biradar and staff Satish Pawar have been suspended with immediate effect for preventing the student from appearing in the exam.

The student's mother had also expressed her displeasure

Let us tell you, student Suchivrat Kulkarni's mother Neeta Kulkarni had also expressed her displeasure over this matter and said that my son had said that he cannot remove the sacred thread because it is related to religious beliefs. Still he was excluded from the examination. This was very wrong.

The student's mother had demanded from the government that either a re-examination be conducted for her son or he should be admitted to a good college and his fees should be paid by the government or the concerned college.
