News Topical, Digital Desk : There's good news for tourists visiting the Red Fort, the famous and historic landmark in the capital, Delhi. The Red Fort complex will now be open daily, meaning it will remain closed on Mondays. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has taken a significant decision regarding the Red Fort complex. The Archaeological Survey of India issued the order on February 13th.
The order states that the Red Fort will remain open to tourists and the general public every day of the week. Director General Yadubir Singh signed the order. It should be noted that the Red Fort monument was previously closed on Mondays.
Tour operators welcomed the decision.
The Archaeological Survey of India's decision was welcomed by tour operators and tourists. Meanwhile, questions were raised about the Red Fort's conservation and staffing. Officials said that the duty rosters of workers, ticketing staff, horticulture and cultural teams, and conservation workers would be reorganized.
This will ensure that maintenance protocols are not compromised. Instead of a fixed weekly closure for deep cleaning and repair work at the Red Fort monument, the monument will now follow a staggered maintenance schedule and regular staff leave.
What did conservation experts say about the decision?
Conservation experts said the change would require close monitoring. An official said that since there are no full closure days, preventative conservation and regular maintenance will have to be planned.
He explained that areas could be closed in phases to allow for restoration, stone cleaning, and structural inspection without completely closing public access. The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the venue for the Prime Minister's Independence Day address, attracts a large number of tourists throughout the year.
For tourists, the change offers greater flexibility. For staff and conservation teams, it signals a shift to a more consistently and carefully managed operational model aimed at keeping one of India's most iconic monuments accessible without diluting prior service standards.
