News Topical, Digital Desk : Popular OTT platform Netflix is pursuing an acquisition of Hollywood studio Warner Bros. Netflix has offered $83 billion (Rs 7.48 lakh crore) for the acquisition. However, US President Donald Trump has strongly opposed this proposal.
Trump says that Netflix has a large market share. Therefore, this deal could pose a problem. Trump has stated bluntly that if this deal goes through, he will be a part of the meetings.
Trump, who arrived to attend the Kennedy Center Honor Awards ceremony, expressed concern about the deal between Netflix and Warner Bros. Several prominent Hollywood figures are also strongly against the deal.
Trump praised Netflix
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos recently met Trump at the White House, after which Trump praised Netflix and said that it is one of the greatest works in film history.
Netflix will get a big franchise
However, if Netflix manages to acquire HBO Max and Warner Bros. Studios, franchises like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman will be owned by Netflix.
CNN and Discovery will separate
There's another twist to this Netflix deal. If the deal is finalized, channels like CNN and Discovery will not be part of it. These channels will separate themselves from Warner Bros. before the deal is finalized.
