News Topical, Digital Desk : Rudraksha Rules: Rudraksha is considered to be a part of Lord Shiva himself. This word, formed by combining 'Rudra' and 'Aksha', means Shiva's tears. According to mythology, when Mahadev opened his eyes after thousands of years of meditation for the welfare of the world, the Rudraksha tree originated from the tears that fell from his eyes. Rudraksha is not only worn as a religious symbol but also as a protective shield.

However, a large number of fake Rudrakshas are being sold in the market. Therefore, wear Rudraksha only after identifying them. Let us learn the simplest and most accurate ways to differentiate between real and fake Rudrakshas.

3 Ways To Identify Real Rudraksha (3 Ways To Identify Genuine Rudraksha)

  • Floating in water: This is the oldest method. Take a glass of clean water and place the Rudraksha in it. Genuine Rudraksha is solid and heavy, so it sinks. If the Rudraksha is made of wood or plastic, it will float on the water. However, sometimes very old and dried genuine Rudraksha can float, so be sure to perform other tests as well.
  • Using hot water: Soak the Rudraksha in boiling water for about 20-30 minutes. Boiling water does not affect genuine Rudraksha; it will not lose its color. If the Rudraksha has been glued together using glue or paint, it will separate or lose its color in boiling water.
  • With a copper coin: Rudraksha has electromagnetic properties. If you place a Rudraksha between two copper coins and apply gentle pressure, a genuine Rudraksha may feel a slight movement or spin.

Rules for Wearing Rudraksha

  • Before wearing Rudraksha, purify it with Ganga water or raw milk and chant 'Om Namah Shivay'.
  • Rudraksha should be removed while going to the cremation ground or while consuming meat and alcohol.
  • It's best to wear a Rudraksha in a red or yellow silk thread. You can also have it set in gold or silver.
  • Do not share your worn Rudraksha with anyone else.
