News Topical, Digital Desk : Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financial tycoon accused of sex trafficking and following the revelation of the Epstein Files, was found dead in a New York jail cell in 2019. His death was ruled a suicide, but even years later, doubts remain about the suicide verdict. Now, Dr. Michael Baden, who conducted the autopsy on behalf of Epstein's family, has reiterated his doubts about the official suicide verdict. In an interview with The Telegraph, Baden said, "In my opinion, he likely died from strangulation, not hanging. Given all the information available to date, further investigation into the cause and manner of death is necessary."

Questioning the official decision

In 2019, Epstein was found dead in his jail cell while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The New York Medical Examiner's Office ruled his death a suicide by hanging. Although Baden did not perform the autopsy himself, he attended as an observer. He stated that at the time of the examination, both he and the medical examiner agreed that more information was needed to determine the cause and manner of death. Baden described his professional conclusion in 2019 as "unclear." However, just five days after Epstein's death certificate was issued, pending further investigation, then-Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Barbara Sampson ruled the death a suicide. Sampson has consistently stood by her conclusion.

The next morning, two guards found Epstein unconscious. He was hanging from the top bunk in a nearly sitting position, his body slightly off the ground. An orange bandage, believed to be clothing or a bed sheet, was wrapped around his neck. The guards removed it and attempted CPR before he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Both guards were later charged with falsifying records. However, new video logs reviewed by the Justice Department show that a report at 10:39 pm on August 9th showed a "glimmer of orange" moving upstairs toward Epstein's isolation room.
