News Topical, Digital Desk : Do you know that cancer is a disease that often grows silently in our body, and by the time the symptoms appear, it is too late? This may seem scary, but there are ways to avoid it. Recently, a doctor Tarang Krishna has revealed how some special tests can help us identify the early signs of cancer (Silent Cancer Symptoms), so that timely treatment is possible.
Get these 5 tests done to detect cancer
Actually, there are some special 'tumor marker' tests that can indicate the presence of cancer cells in the body. Keep in mind, these tests are not the correct diagnosis of any cancer, but they definitely give a warning sign whether you need further tests or not. However, people above the age of 40 years and especially those who have a history of cancer in their family should definitely get these 5 tests done at least once a year.
- CA-125 (CA-125): This test mainly helps to detect ovarian cancer in women. Apart from this, it can also be elevated in pancreatic, breast and lung cancer.
- CEA (Carcinoembryonic antigen): This test can be found elevated in many types of cancer, usually stomach, lung, breast, pancreatic and thyroid cancer.
- CA-15.3: This test is an important marker especially for breast cancer. Apart from this, it is helpful in monitoring the response to cancer treatment and detecting recurrence.
- CA-72.4: This test is mainly helpful in detecting gastric (stomach) cancer and some ovarian cancers.
- CA-19.9 (CA-19.9): This marker is particularly elevated in pancreatic cancer , bile duct cancer, and some gastric cancers.
These are just markers, not diagnoses
It is important to understand that elevated values in these tests do not necessarily mean that you have cancer. Many non-cancerous conditions such as inflammation, infections or certain other diseases can also increase the levels of these markers. However, if these levels are abnormally high, it indicates the need for further tests, such as a biopsy or imaging tests.
