News Topical, Digital Desk : A tourist bus lost control and overturned near Chinnakallal in Kerala's Kottayam district early Monday, killing one woman passenger and injuring 49 others. Police identified the deceased as Sindhu, a resident of Iritty in Kannur district.
According to police, all the passengers on the bus were residents of Iritty and were returning home after traveling to Kanyakumari and Thiruvananthapuram. The accident occurred around 1:00 a.m. near the Chinnakkallel Church on MC Road as the bus rounded a bend. At the bend, the bus lost control, overturned, and struck a tree.
18 passengers sustained serious injuries
All 49 injured passengers on the bus were taken to a private hospital in Monappally and the Kottayam Medical College Hospital for treatment. Sindhu, who was taken to Monappally hospital, succumbed to her injuries. Police said about 18 passengers were seriously injured, although their condition is stable.
The bus was removed with the help of a crane
The accident disrupted traffic on the road, and the overturned bus was later removed with the help of a crane. Kuravilangadu police have registered a case against bus driver Vinod for negligent driving and causing death by accident. Police said the body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
