
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), people of Delhi will have to face the heat on Sunday. At the same time, heavy rainfall is likely to continue in Northeast India till April 27, 2025. There will be a new round of rain with thunder, lightning, hailstorm, strong/gusty winds in eastern and adjoining central India between April 26 and 29. At the same time, heat wave is likely to continue in the plains of northwest and adjoining central India till April 30, 2025.
Delhi on Saturday recorded the highest temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius in the last three years. The IMD said that the last time a higher temperature was recorded in the national capital was in 2022, when the maximum temperature reached 43.5 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature in Delhi on Saturday was recorded at 20.7 degrees Celsius, which is 3.1 degrees below the average temperature of this season. He said that the humidity level in the capital remained between 35 percent to 15 percent. The Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy weather in Delhi on Sunday and the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 41 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's air quality remained in the "poor" category, where the Air Quality Index was recorded at 247 at 4 pm.
The condition of Haryana and Punjab
Punjab and Haryana experienced intense heat on Saturday with Bathinda recording the highest temperature of 43.9 degrees Celsius. According to data released by the Meteorological Department, Patiala in Punjab recorded a maximum temperature of 42.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Ludhiana at 41.3 degrees, Pathankot at 40.5 degrees, Amritsar at 40.2 degrees and Mohali at 39.6 degrees Celsius. Rohtak in Haryana was the hottest place with a maximum temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius while Hisar recorded a maximum temperature of 41.5 degrees Celsius. Sirsa and Bhiwani recorded maximum temperatures of 42 degrees and 41.7 degrees respectively while Narnaul recorded 39.2 degrees, Gurugram at 40.3 degrees, Ambala at 41.4 degrees and Karnal at 41.5 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh, the joint capital of Haryana and Punjab, recorded a maximum temperature of 41.1 degrees Celsius.
Light rain and storm predicted in many areas of Rajasthan
Due to the impact of western disturbance, light rain and thunderstorm is expected in many areas of the state, which may give some relief to the people from the scorching heat. According to the IMD, due to the effect of a new western disturbance, light rain and strong winds with a speed of 40-50 kmph are likely in some parts of Jaipur, Bharatpur and Kota divisions on April 26. It said that in the first week of May, due to the eastern winds becoming dominant and the second western disturbance becoming active, there will be an increase in thunderstorm and rain activities and due to the decrease in temperature, people will get relief from the scorching heat.
In the 24-hour period till Saturday morning, the weather in the state remained dry and heat wave prevailed in some parts of Jaipur and Bikaner divisions. IMD said that during this period the highest maximum temperature was recorded at 44.5 degrees Celsius in Pilani which is 6.3 degrees above normal while the highest minimum temperature was recorded at 29.9 degrees Celsius in Nagaur.
'Orange alert' for 13 districts of Jharkhand
An 'orange alert' has been issued for 13 districts of Jharkhand for two days from Sunday, accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstorms. A weather department official said on Saturday that the change in weather is expected to bring relief from extreme heat and humidity as the mercury may drop by five degrees Celsius due to the possibility of light to moderate rain. Abhishek Anand, deputy director of the Ranchi centre of the India Meteorological Department, said, "The maximum temperature across Jharkhand is four degrees above normal. Light to moderate rain is expected due to moisture coming from the Bay of Bengal, which may provide relief to people from the scorching heat from Sunday."
The Meteorological Department said that thunderstorms and hailstorms may be seen in northeastern and central parts of Jharkhand on April 26 and 27. He also said that strong winds with speeds up to 50 kmph are also likely in these areas. The Meteorological Center has issued an 'orange alert' for thunderstorms, hailstorms and strong winds in 13 districts - Ranchi, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Giridih, Deoghar, Jamtara, Dumka, Pakur, Sahibganj and Godda on April 26 and 27.
