News Topical, Digital Desk : The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court on Wednesday (October 29) directed Prahar Janshakti Party leader and former Maharashtra minister Bacchu Kadu to vacate Wardha Road on the outskirts of the city. Kadu, along with his supporters, was protesting demanding a complete farm loan waiver. The court ordered him to vacate the protest site by 6 pm today.
'Murder of democracy through the courts...'
Bacchu Kadu said, "We are sitting here to prevent farmer suicides. But the fact that an order to remove us is issued in a single day is concerning. If democracy is being murdered through the courts, it is very unfortunate." He added, "We are ready to leave here. But the police should manage our protest. We have no intention of disrespecting the court."
"Put us in jail, we will protest there."
He further said, "Now put us in jail, we will protest there. We don't want to stay here. But the police should tell us where to shift all the arrangements. It is the police's responsibility to get every worker there." He warned, "Take us to jail, we will protest in jail."
It's worth noting that the Bombay High Court had granted Kadu permission to hold a demonstration near Parsodi village on October 28th. This permission was only for that day. Despite this, the protest continued on October 29th, disrupting road traffic and causing inconvenience to pedestrians.
The court noted in its order that several hospitals are located on Wardha Road, and the protest caused inconvenience to patients and ambulances. Calling it a matter of public interest, the court directed the administration to take immediate action.
No compromise on the convenience and safety of the general public – Court
The Nagpur bench also noted in its order that the court had previously issued similar guidelines on a petition related to the Maratha reservation movement on September 1, 2025. The court stated that everyone has the right to protest democratically, but this should not be done at the expense of the convenience and safety of the general public.
