Ever since US President Donald Trump has taken power, he has been in action mode. Trump has worked to reduce the financial burden of the government with several important decisions. Similarly, the Trump government has stopped billions of dollars of funding to Harvard University.

Harvard University has strongly protested this decision of the US government and has filed a case against it in the court.

University reached court against Trump government

Harvard University has filed a lawsuit in Boston Federal Court demanding that Trump's decision be declared unconstitutional and illegal. The university has said that the suspension of more than US$2.2 billion in federal aid is an attack on its independence.

Trump has stopped US $ 2.2 billion in funding

Harvard announced Monday that it has filed a lawsuit against withholding more than $2.2 billion in grant funding after the institution said it would not cave into the Trump administration’s demands to limit activism on campus.

What is the matter?

In fact, on April 11, the Trump administration wrote a letter to Harvard University, demanding extensive government and leadership reforms in the university and changes in its admission policies. The government also demanded the university to conduct an audit to diversify the campus and stop recognizing some student clubs.

In response, Harvard President Alan Garber said the university would not bow to the demands. Hours later, the Trump administration blocked billions of dollars in federal funding to Harvard.

Earlier, a Trump administration official contacted Harvard to say the letter, which came from the White House task force on anti-Semitism, should not have been sent. Two other officials said it was unauthorized.

Three other people said the letter to Harvard University was sent by Sean Keaveny, the acting general counsel for the Department of Health and Human Services, who is also a member of the Anti-Semitism Task Force.

A senior White House official said the administration stands by the letter. They blamed Harvard for not engaging. "Harvard's lawyers behaved badly. They did not pick up the phone and did not talk to members of the anti-Semitism task force. Now Harvard is running a campaign to portray itself as a victim," said Mae Mellman, a senior White House policy strategist.
