The very mention of Halloween brings to mind ghostly faces and pumpkins. During Halloween, people hollow out pumpkins, carve them with eyes, noses, mouths, or make them spooky by placing candles inside them to make them appear more frightening in the dark. These pumpkins are called Halloween pumpkins.

Why is Halloween celebrated?

In the Christian community, October 31st is considered the last day of the Celtic calendar. The next day is considered the beginning of the New Year. It is believed that dressing up as ghosts on this day brings peace to the souls of ancestors. On this day, the spirits of the dead rise and appear on earth, causing trouble for the living. To ward off these evil spirits, people wear scary or ghostly clothes. They dress up in Halloween attire. To drive them away, fires are lit everywhere and bones of dead animals are thrown into them.

Significance of Pumpkin in Halloween?

On this day, children play Trick or Treat. On this festival, people go from door to door gifting candy to each other. On this day, special children wear costumes, scary makeup and masks. On this day, children hold a pumpkin in their hands, in which they make eyes, nose and mouth and place a candle inside it and all the pumpkins are buried later. It is believed that according to the belief of farmers, evil spirits can come to the fields on this day and harm their crops, hence, candles are placed in pumpkins to show the way to the spirits.
