News Topical, Digital Desk : Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat Katha in Hindi: Ekadashi is considered very important in Hinduism. Mokshada Ekadashi, which falls in the month of Margashirsha or Agahan, is considered sin-destroying and liberating, and is highly auspicious for devotees of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that observing the fast and worshipping on Mokshada Ekadashi absolves one of the sins of many lifetimes and bestows virtuous results.

The Mokshada Ekadashi fast is observed every year on the Ekadashi Tithi of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) of the month of Margashirsha, which this year falls on Monday, December 1, 2025. Devotees who perform the rituals and observe the fasting rules on this day receive the special blessings of Lord Vishnu. However, remember to recite or listen to the Vrat Katha during the puja, as the worship is considered incomplete without it. Let's learn the complete details of the Mokshada Ekadashi fast.

Mokshada Ekadashi fasting story (Guruvayur Ekadashi ki katha)

According to mythology and religious lore, a king named Vaikhanasa ruled in a kingdom called Champaka Nagar, who was also a scholar of all four Vedas. Because of this, everyone in the kingdom, from the people to the Brahmins, was pleased with him. But one day, the king had a nightmare that his ancestors were suffering in hell. Upon waking, the king was deeply saddened. He immediately went to the sage's ashram and told them about his dream.

The king asked the ascetics, "Please help me free my ancestor from hell. Ever since I had this dream, I have been very sad and restless. My father is suffering in hell. What should I do? My life is meaningless if I cannot save my ancestors." Then the ascetics told the king, "O King! Nearby is the ashram of Parvat Rishi, who knows the past, present, and future. Go there; he will surely solve your problem."

The king arrived at the hermitage of Parvat Rishi. Upon seeing him, Parvat Rishi closed his eyes and began to contemplate the ghost. After this, Parvat Rishi understood the king's entire plight. He told the king, "You are a very virtuous soul, and that is why you are saddened to see your ancestors suffer. But your father is suffering the consequences of his actions in hell."

Yet, when the king asked the sage for a solution, he said, "Observe the Mokshada Ekadashi fast. Its benefits accrue to your ancestors. This will alleviate your father's suffering." The king observed the sage's prescribed fast with due diligence, and as a result, his father was freed from hell. In a dream, the king saw his father ascending to heaven. In the dream, his father said, "Son, may you prosper."
