News Topical, Digital Desk : Ekadashi fasts hold special significance in Hinduism, and the Ekadashi of the bright fortnight of Chaitra month is known as "Kamada Ekadashi." As the name suggests, "Kamada" means "fulfiller of wishes." This year, this sacred fast will be observed on March 29, 2026.

According to beliefs, fasting and worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day helps to cleanse one of all sins and increase the likelihood of fulfilling one's greatest desires. This fast not only provides mental peace but also provides renewed energy for the proper conduct of life.

Religious and mythological significance of Kamada Ekadashi

According to mythology, observing the Kamada Ekadashi fast frees one from the guilt of unintentional mistakes. This fast is believed to liberate one from the bondage of hell and lead one to salvation. In ancient times, Lalit was a Gandharva who sang in the court of King Pundrik of the Naga realm. Once, driven by lust, Lalit made a mistake while singing, which angered the king and he cursed him to become a demon.

Gandharva Lalit was later freed from this terrible curse only through the virtuous influence of Kamada Ekadashi. Worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day brings prosperity to the home and blessings from the ancestors. If you fear obstacles to the successful completion of your tasks, this fast strengthens your resolve and brings ease to your life.

Fasting rules and simple worship method

  • Eat Satvik food from the night of Dashami Tithi and wake up early in the morning on Ekadashi day and wear clean clothes after taking bath.
  • Light a ghee lamp in front of the idol of Lord Vishnu and thank God for giving you this life.
  • Especially use yellow flowers, fruits, sesame seeds and basil leaves in the puja, because these are very dear to Lord Vishnu.
  • Take a vow to fast by remaining without food the whole day or by eating fruits and do not let any bad feelings towards anyone come into your mind.
  • Reciting Vishnu Sahasranaam on this auspicious occasion is considered very beneficial, which removes future obstacles.
  • Next day, on Dwadashi Tithi, break the fast in the auspicious time and conclude the fast by donating to a needy person, so that the father's wealth increases.

Aarti time and attainment of results

The full benefits of Ekadashi worship are achieved only when the Aarti is performed according to the prescribed rituals. Performing the Aarti of Lord Vishnu after the morning worship, and especially at night, is considered very auspicious. If the entire family prays together during the Aarti, the atmosphere of the home is purified and mutual harmony is enhanced.

Performed with true devotion and faith, this puja eliminates future fears and opens new avenues for progress. The Kamada Ekadashi fast is a divine occasion that brings happiness, peace, and prosperity into our lives.
