News Topical, Digital Desk : With the start of the winter session of Parliament on December 1, 2025, the ongoing SIR (Special Intensive Revision) process across the country has become a major issue of national debate. The opposition is preparing to use it to directly attack the central government, while the central government has made it clear that SIR will not be discussed in Parliament. The importance of this issue has increased because it is being linked to a large-scale change in the voter list.

This is beyond the understanding of common people – Khali

Meanwhile, former WWE wrestler The Great Khali has also issued a fresh statement on the SIR controversy. In a statement to IANS, he said, "This is beyond the understanding of the general public. The government's thinking begins where ours ends, so we should not comment on it. The central government is working in the best interest of the country."

With 14 new bills set to be introduced in Parliament, despite the opposition's aggressive tactics, the government is determined to limit the SIR debate. It will be important to see in the coming days how this clash between opposition unity and government assertiveness plays out.

Strategy to corner the government on SIR

The opposition is strategizing to corner the government over the ongoing SIR process in 12 states and union territories. Opposition parties claim that millions of voters are being removed from the voter rolls under the guise of this process. They allege that efforts are being made to weaken the political power of voters, particularly those from backward, Dalit, poor, and marginalized communities. The opposition alleges that the government is manipulating voter rolls to create a favorable environment for the ruling party.

On the other hand, the government's stance appears to be quite firm. The government maintains that the SIR is a purely administrative and technical process, and its purpose is to ensure transparency and up-to-date voter lists. According to the government, there is no need for a parliamentary discussion on this issue, as it falls under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission. The central government claims that the opposition is merely trying to stir up political tension by spreading confusion.
