News Topical, Digital Desk : Renovation work on the Narrow Gauge Museum, located on Tansen Road in Gwalior, is expected to begin soon. A few days ago, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inspected the museum. Now, Railway Board Executive Director Heritage Ashima Mehrotra and Deputy Director Heritage Rajesh Kumar have also visited the museum.
BJP leader Sudhir Gupta submitted a memorandum to Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar, requesting that the museum be modeled after the Narrow Gauge Museum in Nagpur.
What did the Railway Board say?
Railway Board officials took this memorandum seriously and inspected the museum. Executive Director Ashima Mehrotra inspected the Narrow Gauge Heritage Museum as well as the loco shed. According to Ashima Mehrotra, this heritage building needs renovation. It will be developed as a museum. To achieve this, the ADEN, ADEE, and ACM offices operating in the building will be relocated.
What changes can happen?
Built in 1885 during the Scindia era, the Narrow Gauge Museum holds historical significance. The dilapidated quarters near the heritage building could be demolished and the museum could be expanded there. This expansion would serve as a tourist destination, similar to the Nagpur Narrow Gauge Heritage Museum.
- The option of running a toy train for children can also be kept in this.
- The heritage saloon coaches, engines and all the equipment related to the narrow gauge train of Scindia State can be showcased here.
- There is also a possibility of showcasing the history of the Railway Heritage Narrow Gauge Train through digital screens and audio visuals.
- Along with giving a historical look to the museum, a photo gallery and cafeteria can also be constructed here.
The report will be submitted to the board
In addition to the Narrow Gauge Museum, Railway Board officials also inspected the narrow gauge track from Ghosipura to Motijheel. There has been a long-standing demand for a narrow gauge heritage train in Gwalior. Railway officials have also conducted a thorough survey of this area. However, a detailed report will be prepared and submitted to the Board.
