News Topical, Digital Desk : On Saturday, the Cantonment Board in Varanasi took major action against meat shops. During an ABP News ground report, nearly half a dozen shops in Sadar Bazaar were razed to the ground with bulldozers.
The decision to bulldoze these shops was taken from a security perspective. It's worth noting that a cylinder blast occurred in these same shops recently, following which their allotment was cancelled. The administration tightened its grip on these shops on Saturday (October 11).
Meat shops caught fire
On Saturday afternoon, the Cantonment Board bulldozed six meat shops in the Sadar Bazaar area under the Varanasi Cantt police station. Local police and Cantonment Board officials were present at the scene.
According to information received by ABP News, a fire broke out in these shops last week, and a cylinder explosion occurred. This became a serious matter for the nearby Cantonment Board from a security perspective. Following this, the shopkeepers were informed through notices and their allotments were cancelled. This was followed by a bulldozer action today.
Shopkeepers will be relocated.
Cantonment Board Engineer Sachin Srivastava told ABP News that the Cantonment Board has taken action against these shops and they will be relocated. It has been reported that a cylinder blast occurred in these shops a few days ago, which led to a severe fire.
Meanwhile, local shopkeepers say that other shops are also not up to standard and action should be taken against them as well. Currently, the shopkeepers seem unhappy with the administration's action. They have also demanded strict action against other shops operating in the area.
