He described the agreement on the framework of this interim trade agreement as a symbol of growing trust and dynamism in the partnership between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi also expressed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump.

PM Modi wrote on social media: "Great news for India and the United States! We have agreed on a framework for an interim trade agreement between our two great nations. I thank President Trump for his personal commitment to the strong relationship between our two countries."

Will strengthen 'Make in India'

PM Modi further wrote, "This framework reflects the growing depth, trust, and dynamism of our partnership. It strengthens 'Make in India' by opening up new opportunities for India's hardworking farmers, entrepreneurs, MSMEs, startup innovators, fishermen, and others. This will create massive employment for women and youth. India and the United States are committed to promoting innovation, and this framework will further deepen our investment and technology partnership."

Contribution to global development 

Modi wrote, "This framework will also strengthen robust and reliable supply chains and contribute to global growth. As India moves towards building a developed India, we are committed to building global partnerships that are future-oriented, empower our people and contribute to shared prosperity."

The US and India announced on Saturday that they had reached agreement on the framework of an interim trade agreement. Under this, the US will reduce tariffs on India to 18 percent. According to the statement, this framework reflects the commitment of both countries to the comprehensive US-India bilateral trade agreement negotiations launched by President Donald J. Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2025. This framework will include additional market access commitments and support more robust supply chains. The statement said, "The interim agreement between the US and India will be a milestone in our countries' partnership. It reflects our shared commitment to bilateral and balanced trade based on mutual interests and concrete results."
