Relief from the scorching heat: Strong winds and drizzle have been lashing Delhi-NCR since last night, with rain and storm alerts issued in 13 states.

News Topical, Digital Desk : There's some relief for the people of northwest India, who have been enduring intense heat and a heatwave for the past few days. Strong winds  and light drizzle have been blowing in many areas of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, including Delhi-NCR, since last night , causing the mercury to drop.

At the same time, there is an alert of heavy rain in 13 states of the country, UP, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Bihar, Haryana, Himachal, Jammu, Punjab, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya etc.

A shower of relief in Delhi-NCR

Strong winds of up to 30-40 kmph and light drizzle have been lashing Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad since last night.  According to the weather department, the sky will remain cloudy throughout the day today, with light drizzle possible in some areas, which is expected to bring temperatures down from 40-42 degrees Celsius to 36-38 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists say a fresh western disturbance has become active, bringing snowfall in the hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and thunderstorms in the plains.

Thunderstorms hit Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan amid intense heatwaves

Dust storms lashed western parts of Uttar Pradesh and some districts of Rajasthan on Tuesday. While many parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are still reeling under intense heat, dust storms and light rain are also expected in the next 24 hours.

Alert in Punjab and Haryana

A "yellow alert" for hailstorms and heavy rain has been issued for several districts in Punjab and Haryana today. While this raises concerns about crop damage, it will provide significant relief from the heat for the general public.

There will be a sharp drop in temperature

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMD), this seasonal change could cause a drop in maximum temperatures by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. Cities that were sweltering at 44-45 degrees Celsius last week are now expected to experience pleasant weather.
