News Topical, Digital Desk : Police on Tuesday night solved the case of a jewelry robbery that took place in broad daylight in the town's bullion market on Monday. Five criminals from Saharanpur district involved in the crime were shot in the leg and apprehended by the Crime Branch and local police outside the town. Two were shot in the leg, while three others were chased and apprehended.

Earlier, during the robbery, a young woman present at the shop confronted the robbers, a video of which was circulated on the internet. Police have arrested the five accused and recovered the stolen goods. The injured are undergoing treatment.

Superintendent of Police (South) Dinesh Kumar Puri said that five criminals arrived in Gola town on Monday afternoon. After conducting a recce, they went to the Devansh Gold Art Center in Ward No. 17, where Amrita Verma, the daughter of a goldsmith, was managing the shop. They distracted Amrita on the pretext of looking at jewelry and, seizing the opportunity, escaped with a 20-gram gold chain.

After the incident, Amrita courageously confronted the miscreants, but Rehan and Mehndi Hasan pushed her away and fled the scene. Police cordoned off the area after the incident. An attempt was made to stop five suspects on two bikes outside the town on Tuesday night, but they opened fire on the police. Police retaliated in self-defense.

In the encounter, Rehan was shot in the left leg and Mehndi Hasan in the right leg. Their three accomplices, Sagir, Mustafa, and Afzal, were captured after a chase. Among the arrested criminals, Fazal Ali is a resident of Parampur Mehndi Hasan Chowk in Muzaffarnagar district. Four of the criminals are from Deoband town in Saharanpur, and one is from Muzaffarnagar.

Police recovered the stolen goods, two bikes, and two .315-bore pistols from them. Superintendent of Police (Southern), Dinesh Kumar Puri, stated that the arrested criminals used to roam around Gorakhpur, Basti, and Azamgarh divisions under the guise of selling eyeglasses, conducting reconnaissance, and then committing crimes. The search for other gang members is ongoing.
