Goa fire tragedy teaches Delhi a lesson, CM Rekha Gupta takes this special step

News Topical, Digital Desk : Following the recent tragic accident at Goa's Romeo Lane restaurant, the Delhi government has initiated major fire safety measures in the city. In response, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta convened an emergency meeting with top fire department officials on Tuesday (December 9). The meeting's purpose was to ensure that no negligence occurs in the capital that could lead to a repeat of the Goa incident.

After the meeting, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood stated that the Goa incident had shocked the entire nation. The fire there caused significant damage and claimed many lives. Therefore, the Delhi government has taken immediate action and decided to review the entire fire department system.

The licensing system is being thoroughly investigated .

He said the government is now thoroughly examining the fire safety licensing system and is working to make it completely transparent and simple, so that people can take the initiative to comply. Any kind of negligence will no longer be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against those who do not follow the rules.

The Chief Minister and senior officials were present in the meeting.

He said that fire department teams will now go on the ground to assess the situation, including whether restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels, shops, and other commercial buildings have the necessary fire safety equipment—such as fire extinguishers, emergency gates, water systems, and alarm systems—in place. They will also review whether licensed establishments are complying with the conditions. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Home Minister Ashish Sood, and senior fire department officials were present at the meeting.

Review of fire regulations has begun.

A few days ago, a major accident occurred at Romeo Lane Restaurant in Goa. It is reported that the fire spread rapidly, spiraling out of control, resulting in the deaths and burns of several people. This incident has raised serious questions about the adherence to safety regulations in restaurants and pubs. Following this incident, several states across the country have begun reviewing fire regulations in their cities.

Delhi has also witnessed several major accidents in recent years due to short circuits, gas leaks, or overloading. Fires in areas like Chandni Chowk, Mundka, and Kirari are still fresh in the minds of city residents. In light of this, the government has announced that fire safety measures in Delhi will be significantly strengthened to ensure that no lives are endangered.
