dead bodies recovered from well

According to police, 24-year-old Naveen Rabari and 19-year-old Nathi alias Sonu Rabari were missing since February 3. On Friday night, police recovered their bodies from a well near Khambhala village in Gujarat's Kutch district.

In this case, police have arrested the girl's father, Vanka alias Raja Rabari, and his nephew, Soma alias Parbat Rabai. A case has also been registered against the girl's mother, Hima.

suspicion of honor killing

The investigation revealed that the father and his relative conspired to murder because they feared the relationship would bring them social disrepute. On February 3rd, Naveen went to visit Sonu and never returned. When the family began searching, Sonu's father said his daughter was not home and that the couple might return in a few days.

During the search for Naveen, his two-wheeler was found parked at a cricket field in Kotda village. Naveen's brother, Rahul Rabari, subsequently filed a missing person report at the Nakhatrana police station on February 5. The family told police that Sonu's family was against the relationship, leading them to suspect an honor killing.

Secrets revealed in police investigation

Vikas Sunda said that the police suspected an honor killing from the beginning and were keeping the girl's family under surveillance. Based on investigations and a tip-off, it was discovered that the bodies of the two men had been thrown into a well. Subsequently, the police, fire brigade, and forensic team recovered the bodies on Friday.

According to the police, the accused first strangled Naveen and Sonu to death and then threw their bodies into a well to destroy evidence. The bodies were severely decomposed, but Naveen's brother identified them based on their clothes. Later, the second body was identified as Sonu's.

How was the incident carried out?

According to the police, Naveen and Sonu had been in a relationship for the past two years. They met on February 3rd, and their families were aware of the relationship. When Sonu did not return home until late in the evening, her father called. Sonu stated that she wanted to marry Naveen and would not return home. Her father and his relatives then arrived at the scene and tried to dissuade them from marrying.

According to the police, the father called his wife and son to the scene to try to reason with them. However, during the conversation, a fight broke out, and the accused relative strangled Sonu, while the father strangled Naveen to death. He then sent his wife and son away and threw the bodies into a well.

Attempt to mislead the police

The investigation also revealed that the accused took both their mobile phones to a forest about 20 kilometers away. There, they burned one phone and broke the other to destroy evidence. On February 7th, they themselves filed a missing person report for Sonu and, during the investigation, met with the police several times, pretending to help find their daughter.

According to the police, opposition to the relationship was also linked to community traditions. The investigation revealed that some families have a tradition of marriage exchange, in which the girl's brother marries a girl from the same family as his sister. Sonu had two brothers, while Naveen had no sisters. Police also stated that Naveen was unemployed, which also contributed to the family's opposition to the relationship.
