Fog reduced visibility to near zero, causing drivers to lose control on highways and major roads. More than 100 trains in the state were running late, causing significant inconvenience to passengers.

Srinagar's mercury dropped to -4.0°C

The 40-day period of "Chillai Kalan" continues in Jammu and Kashmir, completing its 28th day today. Minimum temperatures across the valley have dropped sharply. Srinagar recorded a low of -4.0°C, while Shopian recorded a low of -5.6°C.

Pahalgam recorded -2.6°C, Gulmarg -4.2°C and Sonamarg -2.9°C. The extreme cold has caused parts of Dal Lake and other water bodies to freeze, causing severe hardship for locals and tourists.

Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh

Fresh snowfall occurred in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul-Spiti and Chamba districts, affecting many tourists. Twenty-five tourist vehicles were stranded in the Shinkula Pass area of ​​Spiti.

Local police and administration immediately launched a rescue operation and brought everyone to safety. However, some areas, such as Shimla and Chaupal, saw a slight increase in temperatures—the minimum temperature in Seobag rose by 1.0°C to 8.0°C.

• Dense fog predominant in the morning, very dense at many places over Chandigarh.
• Light rain likely from January 19
• Minimum 4-9°C, maximum 16-20°C.
• Fog may affect train/flight/road traffic.
