News Topical, Digital Desk : Pakistan is facing severe floods these days. 24 lakh people have been affected by the devastating floods caused by monsoon rains in Pakistan's Punjab province, while more than a thousand villages have been submerged in water. In such a critical time, a strange statement has come from the Defense Minister of Pakistan.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has advised flood-affected people to store flood water in containers and tubs inside their homes instead of letting it flow into drains and also urged Pakistanis to look at the flood as a blessing.
Khawaja Asif's knowledge about water
Speaking to a Pakistani news channel, Khawaja Asif said, “Those who are protesting against the flood-like situation should take the flood water to their homes. People should store this water in tubs and utensils in their homes. We should see this water as a blessing and store it.”
Asif further said that instead of waiting for 10-15 years for big projects in Pakistan, small dams should be built which can be built quickly. We should store this water instead of letting it flow into the drain.
Flood wreaks havoc in Pakistan
Record-breaking floods in Pakistan's Punjab province have affected more than 2 million people, according to Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari. According to data from Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), from June 26 to August 31, 854 Pakistanis have died due to floods, while more than 1,100 have been injured.
Alert for two more days of monsoon rain in Punjab
Officials have warned that the rising waters of the Chenab river may reach Punjab's Multan district on Tuesday, mixing with the waters of the Ravi river. Meanwhile, the rising water level of the Panjnad river in Punjab is expected to peak on September 5, while the waters of the Sutlej river are heading towards barrages including Sulemanki and Head Islam.
Officials have cautioned that two more days of monsoon rains have been forecast in Punjab, which could hamper relief operations and cause water levels to rise further.
