
News Topical, Digital Desk : US Vogue magazine's famous chief editor Anna Wintour is leaving the post after holding the post for 37 years. The 75-year-old fashion powerhouse announced her stepping down during an executive meeting on Thursday.
Wintour, who has been leading US Vogue since 1988, has given the magazine a distinct identity in the fashion world. Since 2020, she has also worked in Condé Nast's global editorial. After stepping down from the post of Chief Editor of US Vogue, Wintour will continue to serve as Vogue's global director.
What did Wintour achieve?
During her 37-year tenure, Wintour defined fashion journalism, including popularizing celebrity covers, setting trends and becoming the face of Vogue. She also became the center of attraction at the Met Gala and served as its main chairperson.
Born in the Hampstead area of London, Anna Wintour is the eldest of five siblings. Her father Charles Wintour was the editor of The Evening Standard. Wintour began her career in London before moving to New York in the mid-1970s.
She worked for a while at Harper's Bazaar before joining American Vogue as its first creative director in 1983. She replaced Grace Mirabella as editor-in-chief in 1988.
Wintour's personal life
Talking about her personal life, she has been married twice. She married psychiatrist David Shaffer in 1984, with whom she had two children. However, the couple got divorced in 1999.
She married investor Shelby Bryan in 2004. The couple separated in 2020. Anna Wintour's retirement marks the end of an era in fashion publishing.
