News Topical, Digital Desk : A shocking fraud has come to light in Mahoba under the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme. The matter came to light when it was discovered that a resident of Maharashtra, nearly 1,000 kilometers away, had insured a farmer's agricultural land in Mahoba district in his own name and collected the claim. Furthermore, fraudsters from other states, including Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh, also posed as fake sharecroppers and obtained dozens of insurances on farmers' land, pocketing claims worth lakhs of rupees.
Revealed during investigation
Let us tell you that during an investigation in Sijwaha village of Kabrai block, it was found that Aryan Rajput, a resident of Sagar, took out 65 insurance policies alone and claimed Rs 3,408. Similarly, Deepti of Sagar district took out 34 policies and claimed Rs 3,37,748, Jaisingh of Maharashtra claimed Rs 34,278 from 31 policies, Arif Saudagar of Sagar claimed Rs 33,357 from 32 policies, and Durgabai claimed Rs 66,855 from 6 policies.
Devendra, a farmer living here, said he hasn't received insurance benefits for his 72 bighas of land. He paid the premium when he took out the insurance policy, but it turned out that a cunning man from Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, had already deposited the insurance amount of 84,000 rupees for his 72 bighas of land into his account, while he hasn't received a single penny. He has complained to the Agriculture Department. There are many other farmers in the same village who have been defrauded in the name of agricultural insurance.
So many cases have been registered so far
It should be noted that seven FIRs have been registered in various police stations in the district in connection with the fraudulent agricultural insurance case, involving 30 named accused. Police have also sent 10 accused to jail. An FIR has also been filed against Nikhil, the district manager of insurance company IFFCO-Tokio.
However, the farmers' anger and protests continue as they have not yet been arrested. Gulab Singh Rajput, district president of the farmers' organization "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan," says that such a massive fraud would not be possible without the complicity of insurance employees and a data leak. He has demanded a CBI investigation.
What do farmer leaders say?
Farmer leaders say their agitation and demands will continue until the big fish involved in the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance scheme are caught. Fake farmers from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are exploiting the green pastures of Bundelkhand.
They say, "The fields are ours, the crops are ours, the losses are ours, and someone else has taken the benefits of the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance. We want our rights, no matter what the fight for them may be. The farmers have demanded an SIT or CBI investigation into this matter."
What did the Deputy Director of Agriculture say on the matter?
Regarding this matter, Deputy Agriculture Director Ram Sajeevan said that information was received that people from other states had fraudulently usurped the insurance amount of the farmers of Sijwaha village. An investigation is being conducted in this matter in which further action will be taken.
Following the exposure of this scam, farmers and farmer organizations are deeply angered. They allege that similar frauds have occurred in other villages in the district, resulting in losses worth crores of rupees. Therefore, the organizations are demanding a high-level investigation.
