
News Topical, Digital Desk : Pilibhit Tiger Attack: A farmer died in a tiger attack in Newaria police station area of Pilibhit district. Angry family members created a ruckus over the incident. Police gave this information on Monday. According to the police, a tiger dragged farmer Guddu (36), a resident of Mewatpur, for 50 meters when he went to irrigate a sugarcane field in Mala forest range area of Pilibhit district and ate one of his hands and one of his legs. Police said that the farmer died in a tiger attack. The incident took place in Mewatpur alias Sherganj village of Mala forest range of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, six kilometers away from the district headquarters.
Inspector in-charge of Newaria police station, Subhash Mavi, said that the forest department has also been informed about the incident and the police is investigating the matter. He said that Guddu had gone to irrigate his field on Sunday night and on Monday morning the villagers found his half-eaten body in the field located near Bankati Chowki.
DM assured help to the family
According to the police, the family told that when the farmer did not return home for a long time, the family members searched for him and found his mutilated body near the forest. After this, the angry family members created a ruckus. District Magistrate Gyanendra Singh met the family on the spot and assured them of all possible help.
Manish Singh, Deputy Director of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, said that the footprints have confirmed the presence of the tiger. The department is investigating the incident. The farmer lost his life in a tiger attack. On the complaint of the family and villagers, the District Magistrate directed the DFO to get the wire fencing done in the villages adjoining the forest.
The forest department was accused of negligence.
Mangala Prasad, the father of the farmer who lost his life, alleged before the District Magistrate that despite several phone calls, the forest department employees did not reach the spot. When they reached the post, it was locked and all the employees had fled. However, the forest department has denied these allegations. The forest department employees said that they had gone to the spot on receiving information about the tiger attack and were conducting a search operation along the edges of the field.
The employees said that about 500 meters away from the spot, they saw a tiger sitting in a sugarcane field, which ran towards the team as soon as it saw them. They said that the team somehow saved their lives by bursting crackers.
