Puri Jagannadh's directorial debut Liger was released in theatres in 2022. Ananya played the role of Tanya opposite Vijay Deverakonda in the sports action drama. Not only was she trolled for her bad acting in this film, but the film also flopped. The film was also criticized for its misogynist tone. Now Ananya says that she did not like the script of the film at first and she had made a lot of changes.

Ananya Panday spoke about her discomfort with the script of Liger in an interview with Sucharita Tyagi. She said, "Whenever I read a script, I have this red flag thing in my mind, like 'No Gen-Z person speaks like this.' It's not okay. As a woman, it's my duty and responsibility to be that face and say this is not right."
