Police said that since he contacted late, recovery of money will be difficult. According to police, the fraudsters immediately transferred the money to several accounts and withdrew a large amount. Police have advised people to be cautious in cyber matters.
The girl got trapped in a love trap
In fact, a software engineer from Bangalore had created an account on a matrimonial website. Here he got in touch with a young woman named Gunturi Rohini Verma, who told him that she is from Visakhapatnam and works in a trading company in the UK.
Both of them agreed to get married and said that she would come to India in 6 months and talk about the wedding preparations. During this time, the boy and the girl started having long conversations on text and calls. The engineer fell in love with her and then the game of cyber fraud started.
Engineer duped by fraudsters
- The engineer said that the girl used to call him from both UK and Indian numbers. After gaining his trust, she told the engineer about an investment plan. She said that it would give good returns and both of them would be able to accumulate enough money for the future.
- The young man fell into his trap and transferred the money to different bank accounts. The fraudsters had created a fake website, which showed profit updates every day. When the young man asked to withdraw the profit amount after some time, he was asked to pay extra in the name of tax and processing fees.
- A total of Rs 79.3 lakh was taken from the youth by repeatedly pressurizing him and later when he refused to pay more money, the girl broke off contact with him. The youth realized that he had been cheated. Police have registered a case under various sections in this matter.
