News Topical, Digital Desk : Amidst the ongoing massive protests in Iran, social media platform X has made a significant change to the symbol of Iran's official flag. X has removed the official Iranian flag emoji and replaced it with the iconic lion and sun symbol.

The change, made by social media platform X, includes the royal emblem "Lion and Sun," which was used before the Islamic Revolution of 1979. It is considered a traditional national symbol of Iran.

Political instability

It should be noted that Iran is currently grappling with an economic crisis and growing political instability. A widespread public movement is underway in Iran against rising inflation, a falling currency, and unemployment. Protesters have also been fired upon, resulting in several deaths. Amid these protests, the exchange of words on social media has also drawn attention.

The change, made by social media platform X, became apparent to users on Friday. X has confirmed that it is working on the change, which removes the red symbol from the flag adopted after the 1979 Islamic Revolution and restores the lion and sun symbol, which for centuries was a part of Iran's monarchical identity.

The lion and sun symbol was officially used until the Islamic Revolution of 1979. After the Shah was overthrown, Iran's new religious leadership replaced it with the current Islamic Republic's symbol, and the lion and sun were replaced on the flag.
