News Topical, Digital Desk : The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has officially identified the six US Air Force personnel who died in a plane crash aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft.

The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) said that six US Air Force personnel were killed in a plane crash in western Iraq on Thursday. These included a squadron operations chief who had recently completed her qualifications as a pilot.

The Pentagon identified the pilots on Saturday, while the crash investigation is still ongoing.

These airmen are-

  • Major John A. Kleiner, 33, a resident of Auburn, Alabama.
  • Captain Ariana G. Savino, 31, of Covington, Washington.
  • Technical Sergeant Ashley B. Pruitt, 34, of Bardstown, Kentucky.
  • Captain Seth R. Koval, 38, of Mooresville, Indiana.
  • Captain Curtis J. Angst, 30, a resident of Wilmington, Ohio.
  • Technical Sergeant Tyler H. Simmons, 28, of Columbus, Ohio.

13 American soldiers have died so far

The crew members' deaths bring the number of US service members killed amid ongoing tensions with Iran to 13. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said of the soldiers killed on the X, "They were not only outstanding airmen, but also our neighbors – our fellow Alabamians. May their service and that of their families never be forgotten."

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said he, along with the rest of the state, is mourning the loss of all the airmen, including these distinguished members of the Ohio Air National Guard.

No casualties in Iran attack

The US military said the crew was aboard a US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft when it crashed in western Iraq on Thursday. The military also said the incident was "not caused by enemy fire or friendly fire."
