News Topical, Digital Desk : Firing continued on Monday between Afghan Taliban fighters and the Pakistani army. The Afghan government said two children were killed and 10 people were injured in a Pakistani mortar attack on a border village in southeastern Khost province.
While Afghanistan has said its latest drone strikes have caused significant damage to Pakistan's military, China has urged both countries to engage in dialogue to de-escalate tensions and has also offered to mediate.
Several Pakistani soldiers were killed in the drone attack.
According to IANS, a drone strike from Afghanistan has killed a large number of soldiers at a Pakistani army base in Wana, in the South Waziristan area of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The base is used by Pakistani Army commandos and the Special Service Group.
This news was reported by Afghanistan's leading news agency, Khaama Press. Pakistan's President, Asif Ali Zardari, stated that the Taliban government in Afghanistan had crossed a red line and would face consequences. The Pakistani government stated that a war was now underway between the two countries. Meanwhile, Afghanistan's Deputy Prime Minister, Abdul Salam Hanafi, stated that his country would defend its sovereignty at all costs.
