News Topical, Digital Desk : After the Minneapolis school shooting, a critical care nurse found herself in an uncomfortable situation when her daughter came to her in an injured state. She was working in the ICU when her daughter was brought to the hospital.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Sophia Forchus was one of 15 children injured in the shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis. Sophia, a 7th grader, was seriously injured in the shooting and was rushed to the hospital. Her mother was being treated in the ICU at the time. Sophia underwent emergency surgery and is still in critical condition.
Sofia's brother is in shock
According to the GoFundMe fundraiser, Sophia's brother was also inside the school at the time of the shooting. The fundraiser said that despite escaping the attack safely, he was in shock after seeing the violence and his sister being injured.
Minneapolis school shooting
On Wednesday, a 23-year-old gunman named Robin Westman opened fire during a prayer service at Annunciation Catholic School, killing two children and wounding 18 others. Armed with a pistol, rifle and shotgun, the attacker fired bullets through the church windows and then killed himself, People reports.
According to The Guardian, Minnesota's acting US attorney Joe Thompson said the killer was obsessed with the idea of killing children.
The victim's family got help from the church
The victim's family has received help from St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis. Father Timothy Sass said he offered prayers and support to the Forchus family in Hennepin.
In a statement on Facebook, Fr Sas said Sophia was born and raised in St Mary's Parish, where she and several generations of her congregants have been active members of the congregation and actively involved in church work.
Funds raised from GoFundMe
A GoFundMe campaign started by Mitchell Erickson on behalf of Sophia's father was launched to help his family with expenses, medical care, and it has received an overwhelming support and has raised over $4,69,540 (approximately ₹4,11,96,265) at the time of writing.
With such a huge amount of money being raised, it has been said that Sophia is not alone, she has also been described as bright, kind and full of life.
