News Topical, Digital Desk : The Congress leadership is "extremely upset" over former Home Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's statement on 'Operation Bluestar' and sources said on Sunday that they believe senior leaders should exercise caution before making public statements that could cause embarrassment to the party.

Speaking at a literary event in Kasauli on Saturday, Chidambaram said Operation Bluestar was wrong and the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi paid the price for the mistake with her life.

Party sources said the Congress leadership is of the view that senior leaders, who have received everything from the Congress party, should be more careful in making statements that bring embarrassment to the party and this should not become a habit."

He said that senior leaders should be careful while making public statements as their repeated statements create problems for the party, which is not right.

"The top party leadership and the entire party are very upset. All party workers are perplexed as to why this is happening again and again," the sources said, referring to Chidambaram, who has recently made some comments that have embarrassed the party.

Speaking at the Khushwant Singh Literature Festival in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, Chidambaram said, "There was a way to bring back and capture all the terrorists, but Operation Blue Star was the wrong way.
