News Topical, Digital Desk : In Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, villagers attacked a police and administrative team that had arrived to remove illegal encroachments near a pond. During the attack, the villagers pelted the team with stones. To stop the attack, the police had to fire tear gas shells and resort to a mild lathi charge. Half a dozen police and revenue officials were injured in the attack. 

This incident occurred in Hathoj village, under the Khejuri police station area of ​​Ballia. A police team had arrived to remove illegal encroachments along a pond. The SDM, Tehsildar, police, and a revenue team were among those present. Following this, villagers attacked them and began pelting stones.

In this entire matter, Additional Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Shukla said that on February 3, at around 2.30 pm, on the orders of the court, SDM Sikandarpur, Tehsildar Sikandarpur, revenue team and police team had reached the spot to remove the illegal encroachment on the banks of the pond in Khejuri police station. 

A petition was filed in the High Court regarding the encroachment. In the same context, teams were sent to remove the illegal encroachments along the pond. While the demolition was underway, some people, instigated by the locals, suddenly began pelting stones at the police party and revenue officials. 

Police had to fire tear gas shells

Police had to fire tear gas shells to stop the villagers' attack. After hours of struggle, the angry villagers were finally brought under control. Meanwhile, village resident Shriram Chaudhary alleged that the land had been in the family's possession for generations. He denied this was an illegal occupation. 

The villagers alleged that no action was taken against the powerful people in the village who had encroached upon village land. The police were the first to beat them up. The High Court mandated that they first be resettled and then relocated, but this was not done. 

In this case, the local police have registered a case under relevant sections based on the complaint of the revenue clerk. The illegal encroachment on the pond's banks has been removed. Further legal action is underway.
