News Topical, Digital Desk : Police in Canada have arrested eight people of Indian origin on charges of mail theft, including credit cards and checks. Those arrested face more than 300 charges. Some of those detained could face deportation from Canada .

In fact, CTV News reports that Peel police recovered more than 450 items of stolen mail, including credit cards and cheques, from the suspects , totaling over 400,000 Canadian dollars.

Mailboxes of homes were being targeted.

Citing a press release issued by the police, the report said that the investigation revealed a group of individuals who were jointly targeting mailboxes of homes, resulting in widespread theft and disruption to community members.

The arrest of suspects in the operation

Peel police, Halton police and Canada Post launched a joint operation called Project Undeliverable in April to investigate a series of reports of mail theft.

Police said the investigation revealed that a group of individuals were targeting mailboxes , resulting in widespread theft and causing disruption to community members.

The search warrant was issued in September.

Investigators executed search warrants in September, during which 465 pieces of stolen mail were recovered, including 255 checks, 182 credit cards, 35 government identification cards and 20 gift cards, the report said. 

Police said in this case that the suspects have been identified as Sumanpreet Singh, Gurdeep Chattha , Jashandeep Jattana , Harman Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Manroop Singh, Rajbir Singh and Upinderjit Singh.
