News Topical, Digital Desk : On Sunday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the 2026 Budget in the Lok Sabha. Parliament is now scheduled to hold a general discussion on the bill on Monday, part of the ongoing budget session, followed by detailed debate and voting on the demands for grants.
A statement to reporters after the budget presentation indicated that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, may speak in the House. As per parliamentary procedure, members will debate the broad outline of the budget during the general discussion before the ministry-wise scrutiny later.
What did Rahul Gandhi say?
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Sunday refused to comment on the Union Budget outside Parliament, saying he would present his views in the House. Asked by reporters what he thought of the budget, Rahul Gandhi said, "I will present my views on the floor of Parliament tomorrow."
The Congress leader was accompanied by his sister, Priyanka Gandhi. The two left the Parliament complex without answering further questions from the media. Later, the Congress MP posted a list of key concerns on the social media platform X that he said the budget failed to address.
'Ignorant of India's real problems'
"Young people are jobless. Manufacturing is collapsing. Investors are withdrawing capital. Household savings are rapidly dwindling. Farmers are suffering. Impending global shocks - all of this has been ignored. A budget that refuses to reform is oblivious to India's real crises," he wrote in the post.
