News Topical, Digital Desk : The US on Monday declared the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), fighting for the independence of Balochistan from Pakistan, and the Majeed Brigade, the suicide squad of the BLA, as 'foreign terrorist organisations'.

The BLA was declared a 'Specially Designated Global Terrorist Organization' in 2019 after several terrorist attacks. Since then, the organization has claimed responsibility for several attacks. These include attacks carried out by the Majeed Brigade.

US State Department issued statement

The US State Department issued a statement saying that BLA and its affiliate organization Majeed Brigade are being declared foreign terrorist organizations. This action reflects the Trump administration's commitment to combat terrorism.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that declaring these organizations as terrorist organizations plays an important role in our fight against this scourge. This is an effective way to reduce support for terrorist activities. In 2024, the BLA claimed responsibility for the suicide attacks near Karachi airport and the Gwadar Port Authority complex.

The BLA was also behind the hijacking of the Jaffar Express train from Quetta to Peshawar in March this year, which resulted in the death of 31 civilians and security personnel and the hostage taking of over 300 passengers.
