News Topical, Digital Desk : The United States Central Command has released a video showing B-1B Lancer bombers flying over the Middle East as part of Operation Epic Fury, the ongoing US and Israeli military campaign against Iran.

Footage shared on social media by Central Command shows long-range bombers flying missions over the region. Washington continues its air campaign targeting Iranian military infrastructure and strategic assets.

Prowl of the B-1B Lancer

Operation Epic Fury began in late February, when US and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes across Iran. The operation also resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Since then, as tensions in the Gulf region have steadily escalated, US air and naval assets have been deployed throughout the region.

Sharing the clip, Central Command wrote on X that the B-1B Lancer flew over the Middle East in support of Operation Epic Fury. Capable of carrying a payload of up to 75,000 pounds, the B-1B aircraft holds world records for speed, payload, and range.

Why is the B-1B Lancer so important?

The B-1B Lancer, nicknamed Bone, is a long-range, multi-mission, supersonic bomber that has been part of the United States Air Force fleet since 1985. Originally designed as a nuclear-capable bomber, the aircraft was converted in the 1990s exclusively for the conventional strike role.

It is one of the most potent platforms for delivering large quantities of precision-guided conventional weapons. The US Air Force plans to keep this aircraft in service until 2040 and beyond, allowing it to continue supporting high-tempo global strike missions.

Features of the B-1B Lancer

  • The aircraft can carry up to 34,000 kilograms of weapons, making it one of the largest payload carriers in the US arsenal.
  • The bomber can reach speeds of approximately Mach 1.2, allowing it to quickly penetrate contested airspace and attack distant targets.
  • Its unique swing-wing design allows the aircraft to adjust its wing position to suit different flight conditions, enabling it to enter high-speeds and fly long distances efficiently.
  • The B-1B can perform intercontinental missions and remain airborne for long periods of time with the ability to refuel in mid-air.
  • Unlike nuclear bombers like the B-2 Spirit, the B-1B today primarily carries precision weapons, including JDAMS, cruise missiles and other guided munitions.
  • The bomber has been deployed extensively in conflicts such as Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, where its heavy payload capacity and endurance enabled it to provide frequent close air support and long-range strike missions.
