News Topical, Digital Desk : The Election Commission has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court regarding the Special Intensive Revision going on in Bihar. In this affidavit, SIR has been defended and arguments have been given in its support. The Election Commission has stated in its affidavit that more than 90 percent of the voters have filled the nomination forms under the Special Intensive Revision Campaign. The Commission said that the objective of this campaign is to ensure that no one is left out of the voter list. Especially the poor, deprived and marginalized communities have been given priority.

Why is voter card not being made through Aadhar card

The Election Commission, in an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, defended keeping Aadhaar out of the list of documents, saying that Aadhaar card was not included in the list of 11 documents as it does not help in proving the eligibility of a voter under Article 326 of the Constitution of India.

The list of documents is not final

The Election Commission has also clarified in the affidavit that the list of documents that are required to be shown for inclusion of name in the voter list is indicative. This list is not final. In such a situation, other documents can also be valid if needed. However, till now no example has come to light where someone's name has been added to the voter list on the basis of any other document.

Increased participation of political parties

The Election Commission said that this is the first time that all major political parties have participated in such large numbers and more than 1.5 lakh booth level agents have been deployed. These agents are working closely with booth level officers.

Efforts to increase people's trust in voter list

The Election Commission has said in the affidavit that this survey has been started after the concerns raised by the political parties. Its purpose is to restore the public's confidence in the election process and the voter list.
