News Topical, Digital Desk : Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from the post of Vice President amidst the monsoon session which started today. Dhankhar has submitted his resignation to President Draupadi Murmu. In his resignation, Dhankhar has cited health reasons.

Emphasis on prioritizing health care

In his resignation sent to President Draupadi Murmu, he said, 'In order to give priority to health care and to follow the advice of the doctor, I hereby resign from the post of Vice President of India with immediate effect, as per Article 67 (A) of the Constitution.'

The tenure witnessed economic progress and unprecedented development

Dhankhar also said in the letter sent to the President that during his tenure as Vice President, it was a matter of privilege and satisfaction to witness and participate in India's remarkable economic progress and unprecedented development. Dhankhar also said that it is a true honour to serve in this transformative era of the nation's history.

He was admitted to the hospital due to chest pain

Let us tell you that Jagdeep Dhankhar was admitted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of the Cardiac Department at AIIMS, Delhi on 9 March 2025 after complaining of chest pain and discomfort. His condition was then said to be stable. He was discharged from the hospital on 12 March.  

Jagdeep Dhankhar has also been the Governor of West Bengal

Before becoming the Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar was the Governor of West Bengal. Dhankhar was appointed the 29th Governor of West Bengal on 30 July 2019. Prior to this, he was an experienced lawyer and also an MP and MLA from Rajasthan.

Dhankhar had several clashes with Mamata

While serving as Governor, Jagdeep Dhankhar had several clashes with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. CM Mamata Banerjee had accused him of working at the behest of the central government. The dispute between Mamata and Dhankhar was also in the headlines.
