News Topical, Digital Desk : India on Friday reiterated its call for immediate restoration of safe and unimpeded maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

It also stressed that international law must be followed amid the deteriorating security situation in West Asia. The government confirmed that it is closely monitoring regional instability to protect national energy interests.

During the weekly press briefing, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India is actively coordinating with global partners to ensure stability.

Giving important information on maritime security, the spokesperson said that we have given you information about the Indian ships that have crossed the Strait of Hormuz so far.

He further said that four ships carrying LPG safely transited the Strait of Hormuz a few days ago and arrived in India. We are in contact with all relevant countries to ensure safe passage and meet our energy needs.

Regarding the broader strategy to secure fuel supplies, Jaiswal said India's procurement decisions are determined by the domestic demand of its 1.4 billion citizens and prevailing international conditions.

"Our approach is based on the imperative of meeting the needs of our people, market conditions and the global context. These remain our guiding principles," he said.

Responding to another question, Jaiswal said External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has held several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G-7 Foreign Ministers' meeting in France.
