News Topical, Digital Desk : Odisha's Nayagarh district, the Raghunath Jiu Temple is currently in the news for its unique tradition and remarkable sculptures. The idols of Lord Rama and Lakshmana are enshrined here with beards and moustaches, a rare sight in temples across the country. The idol of Mother Sita is also unique; her face is slightly tilted, as if gazing at Lord Rama's feet. This unique feature makes this temple a center of both faith and curiosity.

263 years old tradition, still continues today

Established approximately 263 years ago, the idols in this temple are made of neem wood. Remarkably, even after so many years, they have remained unaffected by weather, water, or decoration. Devotees believe this is not a miracle, but a testament to God's divine power.

The form of God changes during Navratri.

According to the temple's senior priest, the deity assumes different forms during the nine days of Navratri. The most prominent ones include:

  • Forest dweller form, residence in Chitrakoot, killing of Tadka.
  • On the ninth day of Rama Navami, a special celebration is held at the temple. The deity is adorned with a magnificent golden decoration.
  • It is said that gold decoration takes place five times a year, to see which devotees come from far and wide.

Story related to Atri Muni Ashram

According to local lore, this place was once the ashram of sage Atri. Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita stayed here during their exile. Legend has it that sage Atri was so impressed by the Lord's forest-dwelling form that he expressed a desire to remember it forever. Lord Rama then promised to give him three Shaligrams. This is why the Lord's forest-dwelling form holds special significance here even today.

Golden finials and the grandeur of the Kalinga style

  • The temple is built in the Kalinga style of architecture, which reflects the ancient architectural tradition of Odisha.
  • Three golden urns weighing 15 kg each are installed on the top of the temple.
  • The complex is divided into Bhadra Mandap, Nat Mandap and Darshan Mandap
  • For this reason this area is also famous as 'Golden Kalash Temple'.

The tradition of worship and offerings from morning till evening

Various pujas and offerings are held at the temple daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Devotees come here not only to worship but also to experience the temple's serenity, divinity, and historical heritage.

A blend of curiosity with faith

While this unique image of a bearded Ram strengthens the faith of devotees, the temple also serves as a living example of history, culture, and tradition. This Odisha heritage proves that faith in India has many forms, each unique in its own way.
