Shivmoga: Taking a big action in the case of removing the sacred thread and protective thread (Kalava) from the students during the CET examination in Shivmoga district of Karnataka, an FIR has been lodged against the examination officials. This incident came to light during the CET examination at Adichunchanagiri School in Sharavatinagar of Shivmoga district. Students appearing for the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (CET) were allegedly asked to remove their sacred thread and protective thread (Kalava).
Case filed under sections of BNS
According to the police, based on a complaint filed by one Nataraj Bhagavat, an FIR was registered under sections 115(2), 299, 351(1) and 352 along with section 3(5) of the BNS, 2023. The police have begun an investigation into the matter to ascertain the circumstances under which the students were allegedly instructed to remove the religious symbols.
Karnataka Higher Education Minister Dr. MC Sudhakar's reaction has also come to the fore on this incident. He called it "very unfortunate" and confirmed that similar complaints have been received from an examination center in Bidar. However, he clarified that the examination process went smoothly at most other centers across the state.
A similar incident happened in Bidar too
Speaking to ANI, he said, "This incident is very unfortunate. This happened not only in Shivamogga but also in Bidar. Except for two centres, the process went smoothly at all other places. The people responsible for checking or searching for any gadgets or even whatever protocol was followed were never instructed to check or remove such items."
He said, "There was no mention of removing these things during the examination. We respect all religions, their faith and their practices. We cannot accept this and we are going to take action.
Actually, three students who had come to give the CET exam were stopped because they were wearing sacred thread and Raksha Sutra (Kalava) in their hands. The guard present at the gate made two boys remove the sacred thread and Raksha Sutra (Kalava), while one student was adamant on not removing the sacred thread. Due to which he was stopped at the gate for 15 minutes. After this, the Raksha Sutra tied on his hand was removed, but he was allowed to take the exam with the sacred thread.
Was made to sit outside the gate for 15 minutes
The uncle of the victim student Abhigyan said, 'My nephew had gone to Adi Chunchungiri PU College for CET. There the guard asked him to remove the sacred thread worn under the T-shirt and the sacred thread worn on his hands. The nephew flatly refused to do so. The nephew said that even if he does not appear for the exam, he will not remove the sacred thread. After this, he was made to sit outside for 15 minutes.' The uncle of the victim student said that later he was allowed to appear for the exam with the sacred thread but the sacred thread was removed from his hands and thrown into the dustbin.
After getting information about this incident, people became angry. People from the Brahmin organization reached the gate of the institute and started questioning the guard. Police also reached there as soon as they got the information and somehow the protesting people were pacified and sent away from there.
